Our new delivery from the Biodynamic farm Aschim Vestre arrived in Bua!
Along the familiar old varieties of grains we now also sell a new type of wheat, called Børsum. Børsum is a variety which was selected from landraces on a farm named Børsum near Ås. It was the first flour in Norway to be marketized in 1905, thus carrying a special historical value for our little town.
Johan has not sold much of this variety before, thus we don't know so much about the properties yet. Give it a try it and let us know your favourite recipe!

The organic feed does not contain shelldust, which is harmfullf or the rooster to ingest. Instead the shelldust is provided on the side so the chiskens get the nutricion they need and the roosters like to bathe in it.
The eggs are sold for 2 nok for small eggs and 3 nok for large eggs. You need to bring your own cartonbox.

Bua Baerekraft i Butikk Public Lecture: the quality of old grain varieties

We hereby invite you to our third public lecture of this semester on the 30th of October, given by Johan Swärd, one of Bua Baerekraft i Butikk's producers.
Johan Swärd is a plant-breeder, researcher and Biodynamic farmer of Aschim Vestre, the only farm-gene bank in Norway. Here a large variety of grains are sown and harvested on a regular basis to allow the genes to adapt and maintain vitality.
Farmers active engagement with seed breeding depends on their right to use, sell, exchange and take care of the seed. Despite restrictions of Eu seed-laws Johan has enriched and tested over 40-50 kinds of wheat varieties. In 2011 Johan Sward received the Plant Heritage award for his work in investigating the properties of ancient grains, and for ensuring those varieties previously stored in gene banks are once again cultivated and shared amongst farmers.
In this lecture Johan will speak on how various varieties of grain benefit the soil and ecology of cultivation differently. After the harvest each of these grains offer us different qualities in terms of nutrition, bakingqualities and digestibility. Central to the vision of Aschim Vestre lies the question of how we value the harvest. Do we measure the harvest of a land in calories, nutrients or even cultural and ecological value?
Johan will share his knowledge of the heritage of Norwegian grain varieties and what they can offer us today onwards in terms of ecological sustainability, cultural identity and health.
The lecure will be in english and take place in the Cafe area of Vitenparken. The bar will be open for drinks and snacks from 18.30 onwards. Entrance is free.
Our applejuice has arrived!
Throughout the late summer Bianca Gelink mobalized Bua Baerekradt i Butikk members to collect apples around gardens in Aas which were not being used, in order to make applejuice for Bua Baerekradt i Butikk.

Bua Baerekraft i Butikk Public Lecture: Regenerative agriculture in Norway: Holistic Planned grazing
We hereby invite you to Bua Baerekraft i Butikk's second public lecture of the semester on Tuesday the 21st of October, 7pm in Vitenparken. Free entrance
Anders Lerbeg Kopstad is a certified teacher of the Allan Savory institute who is practicing planned grazing methods nearby Hønefoss. During this lecture he will talk about possibilities for regenerative agriculture in Norway.
Anders has a flock of Spaelsauer which he leaves to graze outside 365 days a year without the use of any supplementary feed. Anders will also be one of the farmers who is going to be interviewed for Spires Soya campaign this Autumn.
By imitating natural flock mobility with mobile fencing the animals create a timed disturbance in the landscape, after which the grass is left to restore. Hereby degraded grasslands are regenerated and more carbon is captured from the atmosphere and stored back into the soil.
Afterwards we can use Vitenparkens cafe to drink some beers, discuss the lecture and celebrate Vitenparken, who has kindly donated their space so Bua.
