Bua Baerekraft i Butikk is an independent, voluntarily driven food-cooperative located on NMBU campus in As, Akerhus. Our purpose is to promote sustainable consumption through selling products and organizing activities that advance the importance of biodiversity and ethical production. We are dedicated to build direct links between consumers and producers to enable fair pricing, communicate knowledge about our products and move towards a more resilient food-system.

Our core values
All the products we sell in Bua are grown with sustainable production methods, which includes organic, biodynamic, fair trade and foraging. Rather than adhering to a set of rules Bua assesses the production methods of each product separately, with the intention to support the most sustainable and ethical option available to us. Thus, some of our products may not be organically certified, but are always produced in a way we recognize is good for the land and people involved.
We prioritize locally sourced products as much as possible. Furthermore we actively promote the replacement of commonly used global products by local alternatives, in order to contribute to a biodiverse agricultural system in Norway as well as current countries of product-origin. By supporting local food production we support the continued use of knowledge and skills that enable suitable production of food for our climate. When local options are not feasible we try to offer a more sustainable and ethical version of the products desired from abroad.
We are committed to form a direct link between consumers and producers for the benefit of both. By cutting out as much mid-sale points, transport and packaging as we can our customers gain access to good food for reasonable prices. We also enable our producers to sell their products for a good price, with a minimum of restrictions on the form and scale of their production.
Knowledge and awareness
Besides being a store Bua Baerecraft I Butikk serves as a platform to communicate and promote knowledge about the ways our products are produced and possibilities for agriculture in Norway. We do this through our productfolder and the organizing of meetings and events.
Bua Baerekraft I Butikk is a non-profit and runs entirely through the voluntary work of its members. This way we are able to keep prices low and ensure active engagement of our local community. You don't have to be a member to buy our products but as a member you buy our goods for the price we pay the producers, while regular customers pay an additional 10 to 20% to ensure to cover some of the shops basic expenses.
